Reportage
«A Busker’s Ballad», an illustrated reportage on street music and busking in Hamburg, from a musician’s perspective. I spent several days with the musician, interviewed him, following his performances, making sketches, taking photos and videos, recording sounds, and capturing the atmosphere of the streets. Back in Switzerland in the atelier, I made the illustrations using the technique of watercolours and collage. Finally I incorporated the text, created a digital hand-made font, designed the layout, and released it as an A3-format self-published edition.
Reportage«A Busker’s Ballad». Ho realizzato un reportage illustrato sulla musica di strada ad Amburgo, dal punto di vista di un musicista. Ho trascorso diversi giorni con il musicista. Dapprima l'ho intervistato dopodiché l’ho accompagnandolo durante diversi giorni in cui si esibiva documentando il tutto. Ho realizzato schizzi, scattato foto, video, registrato suoni e catturato l'atmosfera delle strade. Una volta tornata in Svizzera nel mio atelier, ho realizzato le illustrazioni utilizzando la tecnica dell'acquerello e del collage. Infine ho aggiunto il testo, creato un font, impaginato e stampato in un'edizione autopubblicata in formato A3.Di seguito alcune illustrazioni (senza testo).

Blind Portraits

I draw live portraits without ever looking at the paper. In just a few minutes, I capture the person—or people—in front of me entirely by instinct, without seeing what I’m drawing, not even for a second.

The result is spontaneous, surprising and often wonderfully strange: a playful mix of observation, intuition and chance. Every portrait is unique, unrepeatable and, most importantly, fun.

Realizzo ritratti dal vivo senza mai guardare il foglio. In pochi minuti ritraggo la persona — o le persone — davanti a me affidandomi soltanto all’istinto, senza vedere ciò che sto disegnando, neanche per un secondo.

Il risultato è spontaneo, sorprendente e spesso piacevolmente strano: un gioco tra osservazione, intuizione e casualità. Ogni ritratto è unico, irripetibile e, soprattutto, divertente.

Sessione di disegno e pittura dal vivo di tre giorni che ho realizzato per Literaare, un festival letterario a Thun, Berna.Durante le presentazioni dei libri e le discussioni con gli autori e le autrici del festival, ho catturato alcuni momenti dell’evento, osservando e interpretando in modo visivo e artistico.Dopo ogni presentazione, i disegni sono stati esposti su una parete in una piccola mostra, aggiungendo una dimensione visiva all'esperienza del festival e prolungando la conversazione oltre il palcoscenico.</description>

For this project I did in 2018, I painted a jungle filled with cute little animals and plants, to welcome two baby twin girls into their new bedroom.

	Hi! My name is Jamila, I am an artist, graphic designer and illustrator from Lugano, Switzerland.
Ever since I was a child, I have always had a passion for drawing.After graduating as a graphic designer from CSIA in Lugano, I continued my studies in fiction illustration in Lucerne.Work, study and life experiences led me to travel and live in various cities, including Berlin, Lucerne and Hamburg for a few years. Living in different cities and travelling have been a great source of inspiration for my drawings.
I love capturing the world around me through sketches from life and studio paintings, depicting landscapes, cities, nature, animals, and people from a personal perspective.With watercolor, I enjoy exploring the balance between control and spontaneity, creating precise lines and then letting the water take over, transform colors, and invent new shapes. Letting the spontaneity of water interact with my gestures.
Illustration is an extraordinary tool: a simple, accessible, and universal language capable of communicating ideas and emotions beyond words.

Ciao! Mi chiamo Jamila, sono un’artista, grafica e illustratrice ticinese, di Montagnola, Collina d’Oro (vicino Lugano).Fin da piccola ho sempre avuto la passione per il disegno.E dopo essermi diplomata come Grafica alla CSIA di Lugano ho proseguito i miei studi in illustrazione Fiction a Lucerna.
Esperienze lavorative, formative e/o di vita mi hanno portato a viaggiare e fermarmi in diverse città tra le quali Berlino, Lucerna e Amburgo per alcuni anni. Vivere in città diverse e viaggiare sono stati una grande fonte di ispirazione per i miei disegni.Amo rappresentare il mondo intorno a me attraverso schizzi dal vero e dipinti in atelier, raccontando paesaggi, città, natura, animali e persone con una prospettiva personale.Dell’acquarello mi piace esplorare l’incontro tra controllo e spontaneità, tracciare segni precisi e poi lasciare che l’acqua si prenda lo spazio, trasformi i colori, inventi forme nuove. Lascio che la spontaneità dell’acqua dialoghi con il gesto, per farmi sorprendere da ciò che nasce.
L’illustrazione è uno strumento dal potenziale straordinario: un linguaggio semplice, accessibile e universale, capace di comunicare idee ed emozioni oltre ogni barriera.
